Dubai Lifestyle City has denied rumours that the Tuscan Villa project has been cancelled or put on hold.

According to an official from Dubai Lifestyle City, construction work on the Dh2.4 billion Dubai Lifestyle City project located at Dubailand has begun as per schedule. "Initially the work was expected to be complete by September 2009. But now it will only be ready by the second or third quarter of 2010," said the official.

The Tuscan Villa project involves construction of a Tuscan themed housing complex comprising 68 villas and 120 villettes.

Officials from Larsen & Toubro Ltd, the main contractor for the project, yesterday told Emirates Business that work is continuing and would accelerate once issues with building permit are cleared.

ETA's construction division has been awarded the MEP contract, which is scheduled to start by July. "The condos or the show villas will be ready by July," added the Dubai Lifestyle City official.

Dubai Lifestyle City covers an area of more than four million square feet and aims to create a lifestyle community with four and five star hotels, spas, sports academies, fashion, art, theatre and shopping amenities.
