The Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (DCCI) Centre for Responsible Business has launched a series of forums on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) .

The sessions will give CEOs and other business leaders an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas and discuss procedures.

The CSR Leadership Forum Series 2008 will in addition serve as a vehicle to raise awareness and give guidance to businesses implementing CSR activities. It will cover a range of industries including retail, hospitality, manufacturing, utilities and healthcare.

The first forum at the Chamber's offices on Monday brought together officials from real estate and construction firms including Nakheel, Al Naboodah Laing O'Rourke, Tameer, ETA Ascon, Meraas and CentimeterCube. They heard views of other leading industry figures on CSR and the opportunities and challenges it presents. The roundtable discussion considered the importance of CSR and its benefits.

"In the UAE, leadership plays a very strong and influential role and is in a position to spearhead the CSR agenda by directing businesses towards responsible behaviour," said Dr Belaid Rettab, the Chamber's senior executive director. "We believe it is important to create and provide opportunities for engagement between leaders to discuss and debate CSR challenges and opportunities and share experiences. We will use these forums to produce a five-page document that will address issues raised and be linked to current corporate responsibility trends and best practice examples," said Rettab.
