Adnoc takes steps to ease diesel queues

The increasing chaos at Abu Dhabi National Oil Company's (Adnoc) filling stations caused by the strong demand from heavy vehicles for its subsidised diesel has prompted the company to announce measures to tackle the vehicular congestion.

Adnoc said the measures include stopping round-the-clock availability of diesel and restricting the sale of the fuel to set time periods.

The move aims to avoid the queues of heavy trucks and trailers at Adnoc filling stations round the clock.

Moreover, diesel will now be available at specific stations that are far from business areas, markets, internal roads and similar crowded areas.

More diesel pumps will be installed at some other stations, said Adnoc.

It said diesel will be sold through pre-paid Rahal smart cards, which are electronically linked to Adnoc headquarters.

The smart cards will be issued at Adnoc's Abu Dhabi headquarters in addition to company offices in Al Ain, the Western Region and Sharjah in the Northern Emirates.

Adnoc also said it has fixed long hoses at its filling stations for easier access to vehicles regardless on which side their fuel tanks were.

Furthermore, some other services such as car wash and lubricant change, have been cancelled at some stations to make more space for spare diesel storage tanks and to accommodate more vehicles.
