Kuwait, a non-associated gas producer, will increase its current 150 million cubic feet per day (mcfd) production capacity to one billion, a top executive from Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) said yesterday.
Talking to reporters at the World National Oil Companies Congress in Abu Dhabi, Sami Al Rushaid, Chairman and Managing Director of KOC, said Kuwait is all set to increase its non-associated gas production by almost 900mcfd by 2015.
"Today our capacity for the non-associated gas production, which we started in June last year, is 150mcfd. Now we are planning to increase it to 600 million by 2012 and one billion by 2015, and that will be achieved," said Rushaid.
He also elaborated on the plans to increase oil production through abiding by Opec quota ceiling.
Rushaid said the current oil production capacity of Kuwait was three million barrels per day but were producing two million barrels because of the Opec obligations. "We plan to increase our oil capacity by one million [barrels] to increase to four [million barrels] by 2020."
For power generation, he said Kuwait uses gas, diesel and fuel oil due to power plants' specifications.
Rushaid said: "When there is shortage of power in summer we use crude oil. We have been exporting fuel oil not because the demand has been low domestically. It is because most of our power plants are not designed for burning fuel oil."
