UAE firm signs biggest solar hot water deal

A UAE company said yesterday it has signed the country's biggest solar hot water contract to supply nearly 1.3 million litres per day of domestic hot water for 25,000 residents.

Modern Residential City (MRC) of Abu Dhabi said it signed the deal with Millennium Energy Industries (MEI), a leading solar solutions company operating in the Middle East.

"This solar project is the largest of its kind in the UAE and the region, and complements Abu Dhabi's environment initiatives such as Masdar," MRC said in a statement at the end of the Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi.

It said the system would generate savings of more than $3 million (Dh11m).

"Advanced solar heating technology is commercially viable due to its efficiency," said Ennis Rimawi, Chairman of MEI.
