GCC to issue first industrial e-directory

The Gulf Co-operation Council will issue the first electronic directory of its industrial establishments as part of ongoing plans to expand the manufacturing sector and diversify oil-reliant economies, officials said yesterday.

The Federation of the GCC Chambers of Commerce and Industry, which represents most of the industrial units in the six-nation council, is undertaking the project.

Abdul Rahim Naqi, the federation’s secretary-general, has signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia-based Itlala International to compile the directory.

“The secretariat of the chambers is planning to issue the first electronic industrial directory following a steady growth in the region’s industrial sector,” Naqi said after signing the contract in Dammam. “This guide will boost industrial and trade co-operation among the GCC members.”
