Creative minds from the Arab world were honoured by LG electronics at a ceremony organised to announce the winners of their “Be a Star with LG” interactive online campaign.

The competition, which honours participants displaying creativity in film-making or related fields, is dedicated to Arab youths.

It was conducted in partnership with Maktoob.com, an online Arab community, and covered all countries in the Middle East and Africa.

Due to the overwhelming response to the campaign, LG plans to organise more competitions to honour winners in Amman (Jordan), Halab (Syria), Al Ribat (Morocco), Giza, Cairo and Alexandria (all in Egypt).

The increasing number of social networking websites are attracting more and more Arab youth, thus creating the fastest-growing online medium in the region.

LG is building on this emerging phenomenon by making the campaign fun and interactive, while stimulating creativity among the youngsters. The new campaign, which was launched on February 9 will run until May 9, and is open to all individuals from across the Middle East and Africa.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for young people across the region to connect and communicate with each other and demonstrate their talent,” said KW Kim, CEO of LG Electronics Middle East and Africa.

“The website has been specifically created to attract youngsters and the campaign is a great way to bring creative people together.”

Last year’s “Be a Star with LG” contest, which was conducted online, had only three categories. This year, LG expanded the scope by including four more. To participate in the competition, contestants can visit the website (https://najmlg.maktoob.com) and register themselves.

More than 63,000 users visited the website last year, of which 2,800 countries registered themselves on the website. A total of 169 prizes were awarded to winners from 12 different countries.

The prizes included notebook PC, Shine mobile phones, portable DVD players, DVD players, MP3 players and CDs of Lebanese singer Nawal Zoghbi. The top participating countries were Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, Algeria, Syria and the UAE.
