The GCC's small and medium business owners will gather today for the GCC Small and Medium Business Conference in Dubai.

Organised by Datamatix Group, the conference will address the major challenges and issues faced by regional small and medium enterprises (SME) owners and entrepreneurs and discuss strategies to best position their SME enterprises for growth in the regional and global market.

The two-day summit, which is to be held at Al Bustan Rotana hotel, is sponsored by etisalat.

Ali Al Kamali, managing director, Datamatix Group, spoke about the importance of SMEs in regional economic growth and development.

"It is a known fact that SMEs help economies maintain a vigorous growth rate by creating jobs and encouraging entrepreneurship and healthy competition in the local market. One of the focal points of discussion in this conference will be the role of SMEs in the regional economy," he added.

The major conference will feature presentations from leading regional and international experts, including a keynote address by Rob van der Horst, President - International Council for Small Business (ICSB), on the role of SMEs in the rapidly globalising economy. (Wam)
