The Ministry of Economy has said it has received no notifications or complaints from bakeries in Abu Dhabi or consumers saying bakeries of the emirate or of the UAE have stopped making bread because they have incurred losses as a result of the reduction of flour prices. The ministry early this year issued a decision to reduce bread prices from Dh3 to Dh2.5 and has obliged all bakeries to abide by the decision.

In a statement to Emirates Business, Director of the Consumer Protection Department Dr Hashim Al Nuaimi denied rumours in Abu Dhabi over the last two days that bakeries have stopped making bread, especially loaves.

Al Nuaimi said all bakeries are committed to sell the one kg loaf of bread, whether it has four or six pieces, for the Dh2.5 price fixed by the ministry. There is no intention to increase the price, he said. Al Nuaimi said the MoE has fixed the price of a bag of six loaves for Dh1.
