Cash prizes for members of the public who vote in a media awards scheme have been increased from Dh25,000 to Dh250,000.

The move by the organising committee of the Sheikh Mayed bin Mohammed Youth Media Award has been made in response to a high level of participation and following directives from Sheikh Mayed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (pictured above).

People will be able to vote for their top-three choices in print and broadcast media through SMS. Of the total number of people who vote, 25 will be randomly selected to win Dh10,000 – adding up to a total of Dh250,000.

Khadija Al Marzouqi, general manager of Shoof TV and chairman of the committee, said: “The award has already attracted a high volume of participation within a short period of time. Consequently, Sheikh Mayed has raised the prize amount to motivate public participation in nurturing the next generation of media professionals.”

Awards will be presented in three categories – print, radio and visual media. The best 15 works in each category, selected by a prominent judging panel, will be featured in the local media.

Gulf Radio will air shortlisted entries in the radio category, videos and film works will be broadcast on www.shooftv.com and nominated print entries will be published in Emarat Al Youm newspaper.
