The Arab Media Group Information Graphics Team has bagged five awards at the 30th annual The Best of Newspaper Design Creative Competition.

Superior graphic representation of news has been awarded in the competition. It is being held annually by the Society for News Design, a world-renowned international professional organisation, since its establishment in 1979.

The awards included a silver medal for Al Bayan's "Olympic Games" super graphic and two excellence awards for Emirates Business 24|7's "Queen Elizabeth 2" infographic and "Valentine's Day" design graphic. Emarat Al Youm won two excellence awards for its "Falconry: the noble sport" and "Big accident in Abu Dhabi" infographics.

No gold awards were presented in the category of information graphics during this year's competiton.

Last year, Emirates Business 24|7, newly launched, won the First SND Infographic Award for a Middle East newspaper.

The winners came from 10,725 entries submitted by 346 daily and non-daily newspapers in 43 countries. UAE was the only Arab country to receive the recognitions. Luis Chumpitaz, Infographic Director, Arab Media Group, said: "The main feature of a successful infographic is its ability to explain the story without the need to read the text."
