The Emirates News Agency (Wam) and the Spanish News Agency (EFE) intend to conclude a new agreement for developing joint co-operation in exchange of news feed with special focus on multimedia.

Final touches of the proposed agreement were put during a meeting held at the National Media Council (NMC) between Ibrahim Al Abed, Director-General of the NMC and WAM, and Fouad Abdul Rahim, Head of the Arabic Desk at EFE.

The agreement intends to better serve subscribers of both news providers from newspapers, e-papers, TV channels and other media outlets in the world.

Abdul Rahim said the agreement is a new step forward, which will benefit both agencies and their base of subscribers across the world.

He said the commercial part of the agreement will leverage the bilateral co-operation to new heights under which Wam will distribute news services of EFE's Arabic Desk including video footages both in Arabic and English to media establishments in the UAE.

The agreement, he said, will open the door for broader exchange of texts, photos, reportages and TV footages as well as media training of editors, photographers and cameramen.

The agreement will also allow the two news agencies to exchange news services especially TV news reports and relay them to their subscribers. This will give Wam an opportunity to promote and introduce the UAE culture, civilisation and progress and other local activities to different parts of the world mainly Spanish-speaking language.

Wam and EFE have advanced multimedia technology through which they can distribute on time news feed via fibre optics and internet to thousands of leading papers in Europe, US, Latin America and the Arab World.

In January 2008, Wam and EFE signed a news exchange agreement as a prelude for widening and boosting their joint media co-operation to cover various activities in areas of economy, media, politics, tourism, sports in the two countries.

Effort only fully releases its reward after a person refuses to quit.
