Internationally-acclaimed hoteliers Southern Sun and United Holdings have announced a new Dh500 million hotel project in the UAE capital called the Eva Hotel Abu Dhabi.

The new hotel, located on Mina Street in Abu Dhabi, will become operational from September 2010, the promoters have announced.

The project is planned to be a four-star hotel with 417 rooms, including 63 deluxe furnished apartments.

Other facilities in the development include a spa, swimming pool, conference and meeting facilities and a business centre.

The hotel will be housed in a 30-storey building with a modern glass-fronted exterior and will be decorated with a “modern Arabesque” theme, it was announced.

Southern Sun is a prominent hotel group founded in 1969, which has a presence in various countries of the southern hemisphere.

It is now expanding into the Middle East. The Eva Hotel follows the group’s successful launches of Al Manzil and Qamardeen Hotels, which opened early last year in Dubai’s Old Town.

It will be Southern Sun’s second venture in Abu Dhabi after Sun Square Desert Towers at Bin Zayed City.

The United Group Holdings has appointed Southern Sun to take on the full operations of the hotel.

The hoteliers said in a joint statement that the property’s prime location in Abu Dhabi city will enable it to serve business as well leisure travellers visiting the emirate.
