Qatar Telecom eyes Oman fixed-line licence

Qatar Telecommunications Co plans to bid for Oman's second fixed-line licence, the operator's chief executive said in remarks published on Wednesday.

"Qtel will definitely be bidding for the new fixed-line licence in the sultanate," local daily Gulf Times reported, citing Nasser Marafih.

Oman's regulator said on March 4 it was inviting firms to submit proposals for a second fixed-line telecom licence as it seeks to liberalise its telecommunications sector.

Firms have until April 1 to outline their interest in the licence, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) said in a statement. (Reuters)
