Qatargas yesterday broke ground on a liquefied natural gas (LNG) receiving terminal in Savannah, Georgia.

LNG originating from Qatargas Four Train Seven will be delivered to the East Coast of the United States through this terminal.

The ceremony was attended by Ahmed Al Khulaifi, Qatargas’ Chief Operating Officer – Commercial and Shipping, who said: “Elba Island will be one of the main receiving terminals in the United States for LNG originating from Qatar. The facility is a critical link in the LNG value chain we are working hard to complete. Today is a clear testament to the growing energy partnership between the United States and Qatar.”

The ceremony celebrated the commencement of construction of Phase III expansion of the Elba Island Terminal and was attended by representatives from all the major partners of the first phase of this expansion project, including El Paso, Shell and as well as representatives of the State of Georgia, website AMEinfo.com reported.

Construction activities on the Qatargas Four Train Seven project are in full swing and on track for start-up around the end of the decade.

Qatargas Four is a joint venture between wholly owned subsidiaries of Qatar Petroleum (70 per cent) and Royal Dutch Shell (30 per cent).
