Al Habtoor signs deal to use Tekla technology

Al Habtoor-Murray and Roberts has signed a deal with Tekla to use Tekla Structures BIM (building information modelling) software licences in such projects as Trump International Hotel and Tower and other properties.

Murray and Roberts is a leading international construction and engineering group working on projects across the Middle East.

The company plans to use Tekla modelling technology in several other projects, such as the Dubai International Airport.

"Market and technology trends are good predictors of the near-term future in any field and BIM is no exception," said Tahir Sharif, Managing Director of Tekla Middle East. "Al Habtoor-Murray and Roberts Joint Venture selected Tekla for the company-wide projects after an extensive evaluation because the software provides complete control over the entire project life cycle. Global competition and new economic realities form an ever-changing market place in which we need to react to the demands of the industry. Sophisticated owners are beginning to demand BIM and even change contract terms to enable it. Tekla is placed well to offer the Tekla Structures BIM solution to the market."

Ian Dunsire, Commercial Director at Murray and Roberts Middle East, said: "Al Habtoor-Murray and Roberts JV strategy plans to gain competitive advantage by the creation of value through integrated 3D modelling, planning and cost management, while reducing traditional industry wastage in time, effort and materials."

He added: "Improvement in our projects' initial detailing and submittals production can be attained through modelling and BIM, with other commercial advantages following on. Tekla Structures offers us just that; working closely with Tekla team has shown us that Tekla BIM is unique and offers significant benefits to HMR as a class-leading contractor."
