Professional ballroom dancer Cheryl Burke of Dancing With the Stars has purchased a midcentury modern post-and-beam house in the Hollywood Hills for $1,295,000 (Dh4,750,060).

The three-bedroom, three-bathroom, 2,494-square-foot home, built in 1957, has 180-degree city and mountain views, a stone fireplace, vaulted wood ceilings and a separate studio office. There are two decks for dining, lounging, entertaining or practicing a season-winning samba, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

The two-time Emmy nominee for choreography partnered with singer Drew Lachey (Season 2) and football player Emmitt Smith (Season 3) to become the ABC reality show's first two-time winner. She and actor Gilles Marini were the Season 8 runners-up in May, losing to Shawn Johnson, who won Olympic gold, and dancer Mark Ballas.

Burke, 25, purchased the house from Jon Shapiro, executive producer of the Daytime Emmy-winning PBS series Curious George (2006-present) and producer of U2 3D (2007), which followed the Irish rock group's global Vertigo tour. Shapiro bought the property in 2007 for $1,539,000, show public records.

Malibu

Now that the interiors are redone, Cher has put her ocean-view Malibu estate back on the market for $41 million.

The singer-songwriter-actress had listed the home at $45m in August but withdrew it in early May while the work was going on, according to her listing agent, Robert Kass of Hilton & Hyland, Beverly Hills.

The Italian Renaissance-inspired house, which Cher built in 1999, has seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a theater and a gym in 13,126 sq ft. It sits on 1.7 acres of bluff top with a tennis court, infinity pool and a guesthouse.

The updated look is "light, Zen, bright, beachy and beautiful", said Kass.

Cher, 63, an Oscar, Grammy and Emmy winner, appears regularly at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Chestnut listing

Actor Morris Chestnut, whose breakthrough role came in the film Boyz N the Hood, has listed his digs N the hills at $4,495,000. The six-bedroom, seven-bathroom remodeled Mediterranean sits on 2.4 acres in bucolic Hidden Hills section of Los Angeles. It features a tennis court, a swimming pool, a covered patio, a barbecue area and a five-stall stable, according to the Multiple Listing Service. A long sweeping driveway leads past mature trees and an expansive grass lawn to a porte cochere, according to a newspaper report.

The 5,522-sq-ft house, built in 1974 and expanded over the last two years, has a teen suite on one floor, and all other living areas on the main floor. There are open-beam ceilings, stone floors and two master bedroom suites. French doors off one suite open to the pool.

Chestnut, 40, purchased the home in 2007 for $3.3m, show public records.

He starred in this year's Not Easily Broken, a relationship drama from Sony's TriStar Pictures.

Among his other film credits are The Perfect Holiday (2007), Half Past Dead (2002), The Best Man (1999) and G I Jane (1997). In the 1991 film Boyz N the Hood, he was cast alongside Cuba Gooding Jr and Ice Cube.

Cash gain

Actor-composer-artist Michael Toland and his wife, Stephanie, have sold a 1921 Mediterranean in Los Angeles' Los Feliz area for $2.5m.

The couple restored the five-bedroom, 6 1/2-bathroom, 5,995-sq-ft home "back to its original beauty", said Michael Toland, "and added all the modern stuff", such as marble bathrooms and a gourmet kitchen.

The home was designed on a grand scale with extra-large living and dining rooms for entertaining, he said, "and we sure did a lot of that". The Tolands purchased the property for $1,385,000 in 2003.

Toland has extensive television credits, including guest appearances on Navy NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service (2009), Ghost Whisperer (2007) and Without a Trace (2005) and is currently shooting an independent movie. The TV and film composer is also a fine artist. He left his mark by painting an antique Mediterranean map at the entrance to the rumpus room of the two-story estate.

"We loved that place," he said, but it was time to downsize. "We love to have new experiences and it was also time to move on."

The pair has not moved far. "We found a great midcentury place in the hills overlooking Lake Hollywood that we will be calling home for a while," said Toland.

Beverly Hills

The Beverly Hills post office area home of producer David Ladd and his wife, actress Dey Young, is on the market at $5,995,000.

The gated house, which looks more East Coast than West, sits on wooded 1.1 acres with a swimming pool, a lighted tennis court, canyon views and a guesthouse. The two-story home, built in 1937, has five bedrooms and five bathrooms in 5,536 sq ft. There is a

library pub, a sun room, staff quarters for two and French doors. The property has been listed alternately for sale or lease since 2007, when it was listed at $7.85m.

Ladd, 62, the son of leading man Alan Ladd, started acting with his father as a child. His career has included stints working in production for ABC Television, as a creative executive at Columbia and as executive vice president of production at MGM.
