Emirates Central Cooling Corporation (Empower) will install a 4,000-refrigeration tonne (RT) district cooling station at the 'Entrepreneur Business Village' in Dubai's Deira area under an agreement signed yesterday with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for Young Business Leaders.

The agreement was signed between Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, and Abdul Baset Al Janahi, CEO of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Est.

Empower will provide underground supplies of district cooling to the 774,720 square-foot building. The Entrepreneur Business Village is a project targeting new and young entrepreneurs and fostering the development of small and medium enterprises.

Al Janahi said: "Empower was our preferred choice for its impressive track record and ability to execute landmark projects on time. Its adherence to international standards is also reflected across all aspects of its service delivery.

"Our initiative to opt for district cooling at the Entrepreneur Business Village reflects our endeavour to contribute to the strategic vision of Dubai to deploy energy-efficient services that are cost-effective and environmentally friendly."

Empower is one of the largest providers of district cooling services in the region. Its CEO, Bin Shafar said: "As an ideal alternative to traditional power systems, district cooling is steadily gaining the attention of developers for its delivery of clean power services. While most public-private development companies across new Dubai are now adopting the technology, there is still an urgent need to raise awareness about its importance and advantages among end-users.

A joint venture between Tecom Investments and Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa), Empower handles projects for several developments in Dubai, including the Dubai International Financial Centre, Dubai Healthcare City, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Culture Village, Business Bay, and the City of Arabia.
