UAE property developer ETA Star yesterday announced the opening of its new luxury hotel apartments in Dubai.

The firm's StarMetro Al Barsha serviced residences, developed by ETA Star's hospitality division StarHospitality, is now available for short-term and long-term rentals, the company said in a statement. It houses 47 single bedroom apartments, and follows the January opening of StarMetro Deira.

"Our new property has been developed keeping in mind the needs of professionals working or visiting organisations in the nearby free zones and the industrial area," said ETA Star executive director Abid Junaid.

StarMetro Al Barsha is close to Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City, Knowledge Village, Mall of Emirates, and the manufacturing hub of Al Quoz and the new developments on Emirates Road, the statement said. Its executive floor rooms are equipped with laptop, fax machine, and DVD and music players.

ETA Star said the new residences focus on discerning international clientele by providing a homely environment and highly personalised services.

Competition is currently rising in Dubai among hotel apartments and serviced residences as many developers are increasingly capitalising on the emirate's largely expatriate population to offer integrated short-term hotel apartment units.

Statistics from Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing reveal the number of hotel apartments in 2007 totalled 10,190, which Dubai-based TRI Hospitality Consulting estimates could double by 2010, based on future hotel apartment projects.
