Sama Dubai, the international real estate and investment arm of Dubai Holding, has denied a recent news report which claimed that the developer was planning to create a "falcon shaped island" near the iconic Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai.

"We are not working on any such project," Farhan Faraidooni, Executive Chairman of Sama Dubai told Emirates Business.

The report had quoted a Sama Dubai official as saying that the company was planning to build a reclaimed island, which would resemble a falcon, the national bird of the UAE. "There is a project near Burj Al Arab and we are studying it," the official reportedly said.

It further said a company called Bright Start was also planning to start work on a reclaimed project.

The number of reclaimed projects have increased after Nakheel, the real estate arm of Dubai World, first launched The Palm Jumeirah in 2001. It followed with two more Palms and The World.
