Work on five major roads at the Dh220-billion Al Zorah waterfront development has begun.

Leading consultants have been appointed for the project. Dar Al Handasah is the project's infrastructure design consultant, COWI will work on the marine design and Ove Arup will advise on sustainability.

The development on Ajman's beachfront and creek will be a self-contained city with homes, offices, retail outlets, schools, hospitals and leisure facilities including marinas and a number of five-star resort hotels.

"The consultants have been selected for their proven track record and rich portfolio, including several landmark projects in both local and international markets," said Al Zorah Development Company Chairman Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi.

CEO Imad Dana said: "Preliminary work on the road network has commenced. Ajman Investment, Marketing and Services has been contracted to carry out the bulk earthworks, which will include raising the level of the five major access roads and the canal area by four metres, enabling work to commence on the construction of the deep services. A total of 13km of major roads is required.

"The road network will allow access throughout the site for works traffic in addition to achieving the required design levels for the final road construction."
