Regional launch for TV games

TV viewers in the Arab world will be able to access interactive games and programmes for the first time starting this week. 

MG TV will offer mobile and interactive games in keeping with trends and social tastes of the region, said  Fadi Jabbour, managing director at International Media Concept. “In the Arab world, interactive TV has been used mainly for chatting and music, and we found there was a big gap for interactive TV programmes that people can enjoy and win prizes from,” said Jabbour.

“Six months of research helped us arrive at this conclusion and we are making this available now in the Arab world.”

Jabbour said people sit infront of their computers chatting, but they could do more than that on TV. 

He added that setting up everything was easy, except assembling the compatible software for TV usage. Jabbour added participants could use their mobile phones to play interactive TV games and win prizes.

Many viewers could participate at the same time in the challenge, and there is no need to invest in new technology or devices because mobile phones are commonly available in the Arab World, he said. 

Jabbour revealed another project that would be launched on TV.

“People at the moment play football all over the world via the internet. But we have plans to make this live and on TV. Someone may be sitting in Saudi Arabia, while another is in Kuwait and another in America and they can make a team, let’s call it X. 

“In addition, another set of people from other countries can join together and form team Y. They can then meet live on TV and play the game. We are still working on the technicalities but the plan is to get it done.”
