Honeywell Security Middle East is set to showcase its T-Hawk Micro Air Vehicle at Intersec 2010 to be held at Dubai World Trade Centre from today until January 19.

The T-Hawk Micro Air Vehicle (MAV) is a 13-inch unmanned surveillance aircraft. It provides an innovative platform for a wide range of military and commercial applications. Developed through the Darpa Advanced Concept Technology Demonstration programme, the MAV features vertical takeoff and landing, wide operational environment and a variety of interchangeable sensor and communication packages.

The industry response to the T-Hawk MAV during the pre-showcase roadshow has been very exciting, said the company. Honeywell has booked one immediate order and expects several more from various private commercial interests in the coming months.

"Many different sectors are interested in the non-military use of the T-Hawk MAV, for example the petrochemical sector, civil defence and police forces. In these and related sectors, the T-Hawk MAVs can be an option for monitoring sensitive and accident-prone areas," said Aleksandar Smiljanic, Divisional Sales Director, Honeywell Security and MAV Specialist.

In the UAE and the Middle East, the T-Hawk MAV will be used to monitor border areas, cities, coasts and vital installations such as power, oil and gas.

Honeywell's customised commercial T-Hawk MAV integrates applications specially designed for the usage in urban surveillance and integration in critical infrastructure protection, an important feature for customers considering commercial use.
