Larger domains on Huawei radar

Huawei Technologies, a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, plans a shift in customer focus this year from telecoms to larger domains such as smart city projects and the oil and gas industry.

"We decided to open up to markets as we were only focusing on telecoms. The shift will take time to be fruitful as these are very large domains. The implemenations has not happened as these sectors are also impacted by the crisis and therefore we need to take it slowly," said Ihab Ghattas, Assistant President, Huawei Technologies Middle East Region.

E-government and telecoms domains have traditionally been customer focus areas for Huawei. The company plans to increase awareness of green technology among its customers.

"Green technology in the telecoms sector is not spoken of too much but there are a lot of investments happening in this direction. It is about making investments to save the environment using technologies to reduce carbon footprint. Alternate solar power supplies and natural cooling systems are ways to cut down damage by technology. We offer some products focusing on solar power, which is clean and helps cut down power consumption and CO2 emissions," said Ghattas.

He said there is a change in attitude among Middle East customers. "Implementations are also happening in the region, but not in the telecoms domain yet."
