Tech Mahindra, one of the largest solution providers in the telecom world and India's sixth-largest software exporter, announced plans to expand its Bahrain office. It opened its regional office in Bahrain in March 2008 and has now decided to place it at the centre of its GCC expansion plans.

It will hire additional consultants to meet the information technology services and solutions requirements of GCC-based companies.

India-based Tech Mahindra is a global systems integrator and business transformation consulting firm focused on the telecommunications industry.

With wholly owned subsidiaries in the United States, Europe, Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia, the $1 billion (Dh3.6bn) Tech Mahindra's service offerings include business process outsourcing, infrastructure management services and value added services.

Shaikh Mohammed bin Essa Al Khalifa, Chief Executive of Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB), the public agency that oversees the economic development strategy of Bahrain and facilitates the establishment of such businesses, said: "The country offers geographical and strategic advantages for any company that actively seeks to broaden its market reach to cover the GCC and the Middle East. Apart from being close to Saudi Arabia, the country also offers a favourable investment climate and a cost-effective platform for conducting business."

CP Gurnani, President, International Operations, Tech Mahindra, expressed confidence in Bahrain's strength as a viable market for software development and solutions firms.
