TRA finalises bid for mobile TV broadcas

Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has agreed to grant "Emirates Mobile Television Corporation" consortium licence to broadcast mobile television service for 10 years with exclusivity for first five years, for an acquisition fee of Dh17 million.

The consortium comprises service providers etisalat and du, Abu Dhabi Media Company, Dubai Media Incorporated, Emirates Communications and Technologies Company – a subsidiary of Tecom Investment – and Saudi-run company MBC.

The consortium has selected the latest DVB-H technology for the broadcast. The technology, which supports reception of live TV broadcasting through an advance network, is becoming a regular feature in mobile phones.
