Wacker to establish office at DSO

The world's largest producer of polymer powder Wacker Chemie AG has announced plans to establish regional headquarters at Dubai's Silicon Oasis (DSO) to meet the demands of the ongoing construction boom in the region.

Wacker's top officials on Sunday signed a deal with Dubai's Silicon Oasis for the establishment of the regional headquarters that will be complete during the second quarter of 2009

The headquarters will also feature a technical centre providing support to customers in the construction industry, Wacker's key business in the region currently.

A leading global supplier to the chemical, semi-conductor and solar industries, the Munich-based company, through its 12,881 square metre facility, will be home to the region's sales and marketing activities.

With the development of new industries in the Middle East, Wacker aims to market other high-tech products from its broad portfolio, such as polysilicon and hyperpure wafers, for the solar and semiconductor applications.

Stefano Iannacone, managing director of Wacker Chemie Middle East, said: "We are very happy with the agreement achieved with the DSO and look forward to building our new offices here. Establishing our operations at DSO is an important milestone to further boost our leading market position in the construction industry and other growth segments within the region."

DSO, owned by Dubai Government, is operating as free zone technology park for semi-conductors, microelectronics and other electronic based firms looking to set up their regional headquarters and R&D divisions within its premises.

Mohammed Al Zarouni, vice-chairman and CEO of DSO, said: "By choosing DSO, Wacker acknowledges the advantages offered to international investors within the technology sectors. We also believe this collaboration, backed by our mutual commitment to innovation and excellence, will successfully contribute to positioning Dubai Silicon Oasis as one of the premier technology, research and development hubs in the region."
