Document management company Xerox plans to invest more in research and development in emerging countries, Chief Technology Officer Sophie Vandebroek has revealed.

"It's about building core competencies. Therefore, it is essential to keep the investment rolling," she told Emirates Business. "Xerox is looking at extending innovation partnerships with countries outside the Western world.

"We want to have active research activities in the emerging countries. The UAE is an exploding economy and we should have been here years back."

Vandebroek, who is President of the Xerox Innovation Group, was speaking during her first visit to the region. The main purpose of her trip is to meet university officials in Abu Dhabi and build up the company's partnership with the future energy company Masdar.

"Last year we signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Centre of Document Research and I am going to meet the officials to further strengthen the relationship." The document equipment giant has recruited talent for its research centres from universities around the world and plans to do the same in the UAE.
