Mubadala Development Company (Mubadala), said yesterday it has partnered with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, a global luxury business hotel chain, to launch its first UAE property on Abu Dhabi's Central Business District on Sowwah Island.

The Four Seasons Hotel Abu Dhabi is due to open in 2013, and will comprise approximately 200 rooms and 125 residences, Mubadala said in a statement.

The Four Seasons group already manages nine hotels in the region and holds a portfolio of exclusive properties located in the world's popular business and leisure destinations.

Meanwhile, the first Four Seasons in the UAE was initially supposed to open in Dubai, but plans were shelved later on. The property, which was to form part of Al Futtaim Group Real Estate's hospitality portfolio at Festival City, was scheduled to come up by end-2011, next to the Al Badia Golf Club but was called off, as reporter in July last year by this newspaper.

Meanwhile, this is the second hotel venture Mubadala has announced in one week. The company said last week it has partnered with luxury Maldives developer, EoN Resorts, to develop an exclusive ultra- luxury resort in the Maldives, in December this year.

The current portfolio of Four Seasons comprises 83 properties in 35 countries, with more than 40 projects under development.
