Quick getaways

Why you should go there
A visit to Al Maha Desert Resort & Spa is unlike anywhere else in the UAE. Mixing luxury villas and spas with a conservation area, this oasis is a result of a concerted effort by Emirates Group and the Dubai Government in the 1990s to provide a high-end getaway. Set in 27sqkm of land, the resort is a great place to spot the Arabian oryx, gazelles and a host of birds and reptiles. Nestled in the sand dunes, the Bedouin suites come with private temperature-controlled pools, custom-made beds and spacious bathrooms fitted with walk-in showers and Bvlgari amenities. The decked area with sun loungers offer great views of the desert and the Hajar mountains. Guests can also sample fine dining or relax at the spa. Here you can also experience another rarity – some peace and quiet.
Finding your way
Located 50km away from Dubai, the resort is easily reached from the city along Al Ain Road from both directions. There are small signs approximately 11km away from the resort. When booking, you will be asked to call the resort once you've spotted these signs and a guide will be at the gate to meet you. You will then drop your car off and your guide will drive you the 2km into the resort.
What to do
There are a number of activities at Al Maha some beginning early in the morning. The nature walk at 5.30am gives guests a chance to see animals in the wild and take a closer look at plant life while observing overnight trails left by snakes, reptiles and bugs.
