Fall in Qatar living costs ease to 4.6%

The fall in living costs in Qatar eased to 4.6 per cent year-on-year in February after rents rose for the first time since May 2009, the country's statistics authority said yesterday.

The global downturn slashed consumer price growth across the Gulf last year from 2008 record peaks, turning inflation rates negative in some countries such as Qatar and the UAE in 2009.

Qatar's consumer price index fell 5.7 per cent in January, after peaking at a 17.1 per cent rise in H2 of 2008.
