Hamad opens Dh100m Fujairah cable factory

His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, inaugurated a Dh100 million factory of the Power Plus Cable Company in the emirate yesterday.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, also attended the opening.

Sheikh Hamad and Sheikh Mohammed later toured the factory, whose capacity is estimated at 20,000 tonnes annually, and looked into its equipment and production processes.

The factory aims to meet the increasing demand for cables in local, regional and international markets.

Dr Ibrahim Saad, Director of Statistics and Planning at the Emiri Court in Fujairah and representative of the Fujairah Government at the factory, underlined the importance of the project in a statement after the opening.

"The new factory will attempt to meet the needs of local and regional markets and helps us to expand the range of our exports. It confirms the attractiveness of Fujairah Industrial City, which promises to attract local, Arab and international investments by virtue of its services and facilities, which make it an ideal environment for industrial investment," the statement said.

It added the factory is located on an area of 1,500 square metres and is regarded as one of the biggest in the Gulf.

The products will be marketed in the UAE and in neighbouring and African countries.
