Municipality plans reviewed

Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Minister of Finance, Dubai Deputy Ruler and Chairman of Dubai Municipality (DM), inspected plans by the municipality to develop the city.

Sheikh Hamdan was briefed by Director-General Hussein Nasser Lootah on the development of staff, especially women. According to 2008 statistics, UAE nationals accounted for 57 per cent of the total workforce at the municipality.

Sheikh Hamdan was briefed on the progress of the new sewage treatment plant in Jebel Ali. Sheikh Hamdan also listened to a presentation on irrigation networks in Al Aweer and gave instructions to carry out a feasibility study to extend it to Hatta. He looked into beautification projects executed by the DM to make the green spaces account for eight per cent of the Dubai's total urban area by 2012.
