US interest in UAE 'is welcomed'
The UAE welcomes the US administration's keen interest in furthering economic and trade co-operation with the UAE, said General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, while receiving visiting US Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner.
"Under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler of Abu Dhabi, the UAE attaches great significance to further promoting co-operation with the United States in all areas, especially banking, finance, trade, investment and education," Sheikh Mohammed said as he received Geithner at Emirates Palace hotel.
Also present at the meeting were Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Foreign Minister, Sultan Nasser Al Suwaidi, Governor of the UAE Central Bank, and Youssef Al Otaibah, the UAE Ambassador to the US.
Sheikh Mohammed further described the US-UAE relationship as a good and distinctive one, built on strong foundations of mutual respect, trust and joint interests.
"We in the UAE are keenly interested on promoting bilateral relations and working to open up new venues of co-operation between the two countries in the best interests of the two peoples," Sheikh Mohammed said.
Geithner briefed Sheikh Mohammed on the US administration's commitment to openness for foreign investments, as well as to further boost co-operation with the UAE.
The meeting discussed co-operation and co-ordination between financial and investment entities of the UAE and the US, as well as the latest developments in the global economy and energy markets.
Sheikh Mohammed and Geithner also discussed international efforts to curb the current global financial crisis, among other issues of mutual concern.
