Abu Dhabi’s Dh105m beach upgrade ready in April

The capital had invested Dh105 million to build Abu Dhabi Swimming Beach. The project was launched two months ago and is expected to be completed in April.

Massive sand movers supported by hundreds of workers have finished reclaiming sand to build a beach that will run more than three kilometres along the Gulf and work is under way to build supporting infrastructure around the project.

Gulf Contractors Company has the contract for the project, which will eventually include a large luxury beach, restaurants, cafés, a hotel, parks and chalets.

“We began working on this project two months ago and we expect to finish it by the end of April,” the company’s Director-General, Hatim Shaheen, told Emirates Business. “You can say it will be one of the largest beaches in the Middle East.”

The beach is the latest in an ongoing massive development programme along Abu Dhabi’s Corniche, where at least Dh2 billion has been spent over the past eight years to reshape the road and the surrounding areas.

The new beach runs adjacent to the capital’s western seaside and is just one kilometre opposite the sea front, where another massive development undertaking has been completed.

The real estate project, which includes Royal Villas and Lulu Island, will encompass road expansions, parks and the construction of one of the largest shopping malls in the country.
