Navy Vice Adm Edison Lawrence said on Friday he understood that a French ship has found six more bodies – which would bring the total found to 50.
Meanwhile, military ships and planes continued to struggle in worsening weather to find more bodies and debris. Brazilian ships found more debris, the details of which weren’t disclosed.
French ships equipped with sonar looking for underwater wreckage were approaching an area extending out some 70 kilometers (44 miles) from the last known position of the plane – within the main search zone.
The plane’s black boxes – perhaps the best hope of definitively learning what went wrong – remain elusive.
