Woman teacher guns down three in US

A female US teacher has shot dead three people and wounded three others after learning she had been denied tenure at a northern Alabama university, school officials and local media said.

The incident occurred at the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Friday. College spokesman Ray Garner told reporters that police had arrested one person and detained another. "Three people have been confirmed dead," Garner said.

Local media said the teacher opened fire after learning at a biology faculty meeting that she would not be granted tenure.
