Martin Luther King III visits Gandhi memorial
Martin Luther King III is visiting the memorial of India’s pacifist icon Mohandas Gandhi to mark the 50th anniversary of his parents’ pilgrimage to the country to study nonviolence.
King laid a wreath and red rose petals on Sunday at the black marble platform that marks the spot of Gandhi’s cremation in 1948 in the Indian capital, New Delhi.
The Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and his wife, Coretta Scott King, travelled to India in February 1959, just four years after he successfully led the bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama, to end segregation on public transportation in the US.
