Nine dead in Thailand clashes

Nine people have died, including four soldiers and one journalist, after violent clashes in the Thai capital between security forces and anti-government protesters, said Bangkok's deputy governor Malinee Sukvechavorakit. The Thai authorities launched a crackdown on anti-government protesters in Bangkok yesterday, sparking violent clashes that left more than 500 injured as soldiers fired warning shots and tear gas. Protesters hurled rocks as troops tried to clear them from the capital's historic district.
