Support for opposition senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino, the early frontrunner for presidential elections in May, has fallen six more points and he barely leads his nearest challenger, a poll showed yesterday.

The survey, conducted by independent pollster Social Weather Stations (SWS), showed 36 per cent of 2,100 respondents preferred Aquino, the son of the country's democracy icon, Corazon "Cory" Aquino.

Support for his nearest challenger, billionaire lawmaker Manuel "Manny" Villar, fell by one point but Villar was within sight of Aquino at 34 per cent – inside the poll's margin of error of plus or minus two per cent. Backing for Aquino had stood at 42 per cent in the previous SWS poll released on January 10.

Former president Joseph "Erap" Estrada and administration candidate Gilberto "Gibo" Teodoro both gained two points 15 and six per cent respectively.
