Dubai Duty Free (DDF) will open a new warehousing and distribution centre in the Al Rumool area to meet the requirements of a bigger Dubai International Airport and the up-coming Al Maktoum Airport.

“The new distribution centre will be located in the Al Rumool area, which is two kilometres from the current airport.

“It will be used as a major warehouse for equipment used for services and facilities at the airport,” said Colm McLoughlin, the CEO of Dubai International Airport Duty Free.

He added that DDF also plans to build accommodation facilities for its most of its new employees by the end of the year. The planned distribution centre will sit on a total area of 54,000 sq m, where 27,000 sq m will be for warehousing and 6000 sq m will be for office buildings.

Dubai International Airport is currently undergoing expansion work at Terminal 2 where DDF will retain 1500 sq m for retail space.

Concourse 2 at the airport will open later this year where there will be 11,000 sq m of retail space and Concourse 3 will open with 5000 sq m of retail space.

Dubai World Central, the new development near Jebel Ali, will encompass the Al Maktoum airport which would have an eventual capacity of up to 130 million passengers per year, said McLoughlin.
