DHL teams up with Dubai Industrial City
|
DHL, the world’s leading logistics company, has entered into a strategic partnership with Dubai Industrial City. Under the partnership agreement, leading contract logistics company DHL Exel Supply Chain, in collaboration with sister companies DHL Express, Danzas AEI, and DHL Global Forwarding, are developing a new supply model: transPark, a dedicated logistics park that will provide a single control point for, and access to, a full range of end-to-end logistics services to the companies at Dubai Industrial City. Rashed Al Ansari, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Industrial City, a member of Tatweer, said that transPark stands to support the massive demand for logistics services that is being generated by the booming industrial and manufacturing sector. “Our city will comprise more than 450 factories and an employee base that is projected to reach more than 150,000 people” said Al Ansari. “It is estimated Dubai Industrial City's clients, collectively, will require up to 25,000 containers of start-up equipment just to become operational.” Considered the third largest non-real estate project in Dubai, Dubai Industrial City aims to promote the continued expansion of the industrial sector in the region, particularly high-value manufacturing and production in the small and medium sector industries. The ultimate objective is to make Dubai less dependent on imports. “Dubai’s growing industrial sector is providing a huge boost for the UAE economy, but also posing challenges,” said David Christmas, Managing Director, Middle East, of DHL Exel Supply Chain. “With access to DHL’s network and experience, transPARK will provide a complete range of supply chain solutions. It will mean companies at Dubai Industrial City can focus on their core business and have greater control over cost and risk, helping to drive savings and increase value.” Using DHL’s global network, the transPARK complex will be positioned to provide services that include freight, inventory management, distribution and consultancy. TransPARK’s warehousing includes storage areas for machinery and vehicles, bulk storage, bonded storage, racked storage, or temperature-controlled storage for perishables. Storage space will be leased on an individual or multi-user basis. The logistics park offers such services as co-packing, labelling, security tagging and consultancy on warehouse design and construction, along with fleet optimisation and route planning. Efficiency and reduced costs are the main priorities of the project. An example of this will be the operation of a Multi User Distribution Centre that can generate up to a forty per cent reduction in warehousing costs.
TransPark has a strategic location near Jebel Ali Port – the third largest re-export hub after Hong Kong and Singapore. It is also adjacent to the Al Maktoum International Airport, set to become the world’s largest airport, and major national highways. Dubai Industrial City is the third largest non-real estate project in Dubai and is spread across 560 million square foot of land.
