Dubai Industrial City, a member of Tatweer and the third largest non-real estate project in Dubai, said on Saturday it was offering priority leasing of its warehouses to businesses that were affected by the warehouse fire in Al Quoz.
Chief Executive Officer Rashed Al Ansari (pictured above) said the initiative from the industrial hub comes as part of its obligation and long-term commitment to support the industrial sector in Dubai.
“We are currently leasing 1.5 million square feet of warehouses in our township and these storage facilities were built to support the businesses of industrial investors in our city and those who suffered losses will be offered priority to lease our warehouses at reduced rates, considering the difficulties they are currently facing,” he said.
Rashed added: “To be eligible for our offer, business owners would have to show official documents proving that they were affected by the fire in Al Quoz.”
He said: “We are mandated, as the leading industrial destination in Dubai, to support and boost the sector in the emirate and as a socially responsible company, we have a duty to help investors whose businesses were affected, while at the same time absorb the deficit in storage facilities created by the incident.”
He said the warehouses at Dubai Industrial City strictly follow the health and safety guidelines enforced by Maqayees, the Dubai Centre for Industrial Standards, which is in charge of managing and enforcing all health, safety and environment related procedures across the industrial city.
Dubai Industrial City’s initiative comes after Wednesday morning saw huge fires engulf more than 80 warehouses in Al Quoz following an explosion in a fireworks warehouse.
The fire that stretched across one kilometre is thought to be one of the biggest in the history of Dubai, causing losses estimated at Dh600 million. |
