Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) will open two offices in China later this year after the visit of a DTCM delegation next month.

One of the offices will be in Shanghai (pictured above), China’s business and commercial capital, while the location of the other is yet to be decided. DTCM already has an office in Hong Kong and believes that China, which accounts for $11.5 billion (Dh42.2bn) in trade with Dubai, is a market worthy of attention.

Last month, the Consul-General of China in Dubai, Gao Youzhen, met Khalid bin Sulayem, Director-General of DTCM, to discuss the move that will now be followed up by a UAE delegation visiting China next month.

The expansion into China is seen as further cementing DTCM’s potential to meet the plans of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to increase the number of visitors to Dubai to 15 million by 2015.

Eyad Ali Abdul Rahman, executive director of media relations division and acting director of business development at DTCM, said China was a huge market and the new offices would consolidate the already strong relations that Dubai has with China. “Our aim is to promote Dubai in more countries and China is a huge country,” he said.

“We want to attract tourists and investors from China to Dubai. Shanghai has many high-net worth individuals, and there is high potential for tourism and investment there, so we want to promote Dubai in that city.”
