The Dubai Lynx Awards has announced the new jury for the second edition of the annual event, dubbed the leading creative advertising competition for the Middle East and North Africa region (Mena).

Cannes Lions, the organiser of the event, has extended the competition to a three-day festival this year, dubbed the first Dubai International Advertising Festival. There are four juries comprising 30 top professionals from the creative and media segments of the advertising industry.

Piyush Pandey, Chairman, Ogilvy & Mather India will be the jury president for TV/cinema, print, outdoor and radio. Ashish Bhasin, Director, IMAG, Lintas, is part the of interactive and direct jury.

“Regional ad awards are a lot more relevant in recognising and encouraging local talent than national or international ones. And when Cannes is doing it, it will take creativity to the next level,” said Pandey.

According to Bhasin, originality is essential when it comes to recognising creative excellence.

“I like a concept which is intelligent, creative and has a focus,” he said.

He added that the inclusion of direct and interactive media has made the awards comprehensive.

“The festival will take into account an integrated media and not just print and television. This will benefit the entire Mena ad industry,”

he said.

Celebrating the region’s creativity, the festival will include a seminar featuring top international speakers, a series of topical workshops, exhibitions and screenings of the competing work.

The festival will take place between March 31 and April 2 in the Sheikh Rashid Hall at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

“Building on the successful launch of the Dubai Lynx Awards last year, we aim to bring to the region another great event where the best creative work will be judged and showcased, including work in the newly introduced media category,” said Steve Lane, Dubai Lynx Festival Director.

At a press conference held in Dubai, the organisers of the Dubai International Advertising Festival announced that a new honouree award will be introduced from this year.

The Advertising Person of the Year Award will be presented to someone who has lifted the presence and profile of the region within the international marketing community. This may be either within their own country or at a regional level.

The first recipient of the award will be announced in two weeks and the trophy will be presented on April 2 during the awards ceremony at the festival.
