The organisers of the first Dubai International Advertising Festival have announced 2,023 entries from 17 countries will be competing for the coveted Dubai Lynx Awards at this year’s event, an increase of 20 per cent compared to the previous year.

The ad festival is being presented by Cannes Lions. The festival will incorporate the second Dubai Lynx Awards, which started last year to recognise creative talents in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena).

“We are delighted to see such a strong growth in the number of entries in the region, particularly in outdoor and the new media category.

“Although these are young awards, they have already become well established and highly regarded in the Mena region, establishing the definitive standard for creative excellence in advertising,” said Steve Lane, Dubai Lynx Awards Director.

All entries can be viewed at the Dubai International Advertising Festival, which will be held between Monday and Wednesday, at the Sheikh Rashid Hall at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre. As part of the festival, a three-day programme of seminars and workshops addressing both regional and international industry trends will also take place.

The winners will be honoured during the Dubai Lynx Awards ceremony on Wednesday evening.

Participation from abroad is picking up momentum. Lowe Worldwide EVP and Asia regional director for integrated marketing, Ashish Bhasin, has been nominated to represent India in the panel of judges for the interactive and direct advertising category at the Lynx Awards.

Bhasin is the only Indian on the panel of judges for this category.

Bhasin previously also represented India at the prestigious Cannes Lions 2007 as a jury member.

He is also the founder of Lintas IMAG, Lintas India’s integrated marketing action group. His responsibilities at the group include overseeing Linterland (rural marketing), Lintas Personal, LINOpinion (PR), Advent (Events), Lintertainment, Lowe Healthcare & d Cell.

The awards will honour creative excellence across Mena in TV/cinema, print, outdoor, radio, direct marketing, media and interactive advertising categories.
