Etihad Airways has signed a three-year deal to be the title sponsor of the Formula One Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, starting with the inaugural race in 2009.

The seven-figure deal will see the Formula One in the UAE capital branded as Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix until 2011. It also provides Etihad with a major trackside advertising package and podium branding for the Grand Prix.

The deal was secured by Allsport Management, part of the Formula One Group, and was officially signed by James Hogan, Etihad Airways’ CEO and Bernie Ecclestone, President and CEO of the Formula One Group at Formula One headquarters in London.

“To have secured the title sponsorship… is a tremendous honour for Etihad Airways and will enable the airline to increase its reach to a global audience,” said Hogan.

“Securing a title sponsor of this calibre two years out from the first event is further reinforcement that the region is full of excitement and anticipation for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix,” Ecclestone said.

As part of its Formula One Abu Dhabi Grand Prix title sponsorship Etihad will offer its customers a series of all-inclusive packages that include flights, accommodation and Grand Prix tickets.

Hogan added: “The 2009 Formula One Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will be a historic occasion for the UAE capital.”
