Flights are resuming on the runway a Turkish Airlines Boeing 737-800 was aiming for when it crashed four days ago, killing nine crew and passengers.

The runway has been closed to all air traffic since Wednesday’s crash that also injured dozens of passengers. Flight TK1951 slammed into a muddy field 1.5 kilometres short of the runway and broke into three pieces.

Dutch Safety Authority spokesman Fred Sanders said on Sunday that investigators were still examining the wreckage and hunting for clues to the cause of the crash. They expect to be able to give a preliminary report into the cause next week. Authorities say flights are expected to resume on the runway late Sunday.

Five Turks and four Americans died in the crash.
