Spanish investigators believe two suspects in a corruption scandal that has engulfed the main opposition party stashed €21 million (Dh105.7m) in Swiss banks accounts. Francisco Correa, a businessman, and Pablo Crespo, a former head of the conservative Popular Party in the northwestern region of Galicia, were arrested in February, 2009 over the alleged kickbacks-for-contracts scheme. Investigators suspect Correa placed €17m of the money he amassed from the scheme into Swiss bank accounts, and Crespo and a further €4m, the El Pais said. It said Swiss authorities located the accounts at the request of the Spanish investigators.
