A child was killed and five others wounded Monday when a grenade exploded as they were playing in an eastern Kenyan town, a local official said.
The seven-year-old boy died on the spot while the other children suffered multiple fractures in the incident in a village in Isiolo district, about 200 kilometres (125 miles) north of Nairobi, said local administrator Geoffrey Mayama.
Two children were admitted in Isiolo district hospital in critical condition while three were treated and discharged.
"Most parts of this district are being used by military for training and it is important that locals report any suspicious looking objects," Mayama said.
Police collected the shrapnels for ballistic tests to establish the origin of the grenade. (AFP)
